knit, knit, knit

If you haven’t already noticed, I LOVE to knit and I even mentioned it in my first post.  I know it’s weird because usually knitting is associated with a senior citizen knitting ugly Christmas sweaters for her grandkids.  Obviously senior citizens knit but so do a lot of younger people and some beautiful things are created.  Knitting is a fantastic creative outlet and it’s portable! Valencia, Spain

As mentioned in a previous post, I spent some time in Valencia on holiday. I’m not the typical tourist that wants to see every museum, monument, or tourist attraction where I visit. I’m actually the opposite: I pick a few places that I must see and the rest of the time it’s about walking around and relaxing. My holidays are usually planned around food and drink (it must be my Western European roots) and everything else we fit in between the meals, snacks, and impromptu stuff your face sessions that we excel at.

I think Valencia is a great weekend getaway especially if you’re from Madrid because you can get there in an hour and a half on the AVE (the Spanish high velocity train). Here’s what I enjoyed while in Valencia: Continue reading

diy: blue LOVE clutch

This  DIY blue LOVE clutch was inspired by a We Are Knitters (WAK) pattern they were handing out at the Beefeater London Market in Madrid this spring. The pattern was for a mega clutch in WAK’s fabric yarn. The pattern was cool but it wasn’t exactly what I wanted however it did inspire me to make my own clutch. This is my first DIY project on LLK and what started out as just a quick knit turned into something more elaborate but the end result was totally worth it.   I don’t know why I have a tendency to overdo it, well actually I do, it’s called perfectionism (my number one frenemy). Alqueria del Pou Restaurant (Valencia)

We’re in Valencia right now enjoying the sun, sand, and sea. This wasn’t our original summer vacation plan but some unexpected last minute changes made us readjust and we’re making the best of it. This is my first time in Valencia in way too many years and I’ve been pleasantly surprised to say the least. I’ll write a separate post about stuff we’ve done in Valencia however this restaurant deserves a whole post to itself; it was that good! Continue reading

grilled vegetables

Honestly, I feel kinda silly writing this recipe because it seems so basic to me however I thought that some people just aren’t that into cooking and what might seem ham and cheese sandwich simple to me may not be the case for others.  I used to pretty much follow recipes to the letter when I started living on my own and as time went on with every recipe I started to gain confidence and I would veer a little from the recipe and so on until I stopped relying solely on recipes.  I still use recipes all the time especially with my “special occasion” food but our go to meals during the week are things that we throw together that result in healthy, nutritious, simple dishes that cover all the bases.   I also take advantage of making extra so that I have decent stuff to eat at lunch everyday during the week at work.

books, books, books

Books books books photo

I love to read and I’m always looking for something new to read. One of the things I miss about living in my hometown is walking through Chapters bookstore and just wandering through the stacks and browsing all the books. Of course there are plenty of bookstores in Madrid but the majority of the books are in Spanish and it’s just not the same; I can browse the English book section in about 5 minutes.

A frequent question among my friends is “what should I read next?” and I thought I’d share some of favorites. I definitely love the summer beach read and unfortunately I’m not as well read as I’d like to be (I struggle with the classics).

morning glory muffins

I can’t remember how I stumbled upon this recipe online but I’m definitely glad I did.  I found this morning glory muffin recipe here and I made them that same weekend.  I have to apologize for the quality of the photos because they are pretty awful.  A few months before going live with my blog, I started taking pictures of the food I was making and as I’ve mentioned before: photography isn’t my forte!   These pictures are pretty bad and in hindsight I have no idea why I didn’t take a picture of the muffins outside of the ginormous muffin liners.

summer Buys

I love to shop however I don’t do it very often because it could be very dangerous to my wallet!  I’m actually pretty restrained; I’ve figured out that if I don’t go into a store then I’m safe.  I just can’t go into a store because then I’ll definitely buy something.  I’m also not someone who likes to just look for the sake of looking.  I like to shop which means I like to buy and spend my money so it’s easier for me not to go into stores because unless something’s caught my eye, I’ll just keep on walking.

I don’t do a lot of online shopping because I don’t know how I could buy clothes without trying them on first however I do buy things for the house, kitchen, and shoes, oh so many shoes online.   Online shopping is dangerous, very dangerous, because it’s just so easy to click and it’s done!!!  Here are few things I’ve picked up for the summer that I thought I’d share with you.  Continue reading
